Farm food

Frankfurt´s “Äppler” Magazine published a list of their reader´s preferred farm shops last week. We selected a few and are introducing them here:


1. Wiesbaden-Area:

close to the Erbenheim-Airport you´ll find the “Domäne Mechtildshausen” (Domäne is an old German word for a defined area in private or state property). Famous for it´s Charolais beef with it´s juice and flavourful meat, french Bresse-chicken (Yes, they taste different than the scrawny chickens you get in a plastic sack in Safeway. They should, since our research found that a Bresse chicken in a French supermarket was marked 17 Euros. Steep. But, if you like flavor in a chicken, it´s worth it. Bresse chickens are treated like fine wine. They have an appellation, a particular place where they come from, and they are a particular breed. Plus, they get to eat real food and walk around the countryside, all regulated by law) and goods like bread, cake, cheese a.s.o. The German Gourmet Magazine “Feinschmecker” considers the Domain one of the best producers of cheese in Germany.

2. Bad Vilbel:

"Dottenfelder Hof" offers a rich variety (2.000!) of organic produces like e.g. fresh bread, meat and beef from it´s own grocery in different stores.

3. Wehrheim:

organic food also offers the eco-farmer “Hof Etzel” in Wehrheim. In a historic environment you´ll find delicios whole grain breads and high-quality meat/beef from farm breed cows and pigs. You will find more than 3.000 produces in Wehrheim, Pfaffenwiesbacher Str. 6, in Bad Homburg (Louisenstrasse 13) and Oberursel (Epinayplatz).

4. Taunusstein:

gallowaybeef is sold by the “Biohof Platte” in Taunusstein-Neuhof. You´ll find pork, goose, ducks and chicken, too.

5. Waldems/Taunus:

look at “Schafhof Heiko Berbalk” in Waldems/Taunus if you want to get fresh lamb and feta cheese as well as fresh herbs from the farm´s own herbal-garden. Apart from a huge variety of fruits and vegetables, fresh applejuice and cider are offered, too.

6. Hofheim:

cider is also produced in Hofheim at the “Lindenhof”. The farmshop also offers pork-meat, fresh fruits and vegetables.

7. Steinbach/Taunus:

family farmshop „Quellenhof“ with it´s own vegetables, fruit- and wheat produces. They also have milkproducts, Egg and fresh bread/cakes.

8. Bad Soden:

Bad Soden-Altenhain “Hof Wilhelmshöhe” (take the Niederhofheimer Str.to get there)

9. Sulzbach/Taunus:

“Hofladen Schaar”, Mainzer Str. 2

10. Liederbach:

11. Kronberg:
